Not only are they at outlet malls they are in every TJ Maxx, Marshalls etc.

Plus every department store carries his stuff now, I feel like he kind of took the panache out of his brand when he went mass production.

I completely agree. It's basically what happened in the 90's to Calvin Klein. My understanding is that CK started licensing out for everything--socks, t-shirts, accessories. The brand got very diluted. Quality went down and it was just EVERYWHERE. The brand completely lost its special-ness and reputation. I feel like that's what is happening with MK. I do like some of his dresses and more plain styles of clothing. I can't stand the bags and watches--they just seem cheap to me.

This. They're cliche by now.

I like the fabric MK bags but the straps are thin and start to fray and crack really easily. I've moved on - currently liking my Everlane bag but just got it so we'll see how it holds up.

That's Michael Michael Kors. His actual line, the insanely expensive one, is still panache-y. To use a non-word.

My 58 year old mother from fly over country just got one. I suspect at Macy's her favorite store of all time. I think it's blah and just told her to branch out a little :/

You just HAVE to say she's from flyover country, right? Because plenty of "basic" women from cities don't have MK purses.

You know we have cities in flyover country as well, right?

You couldn't even give her a nice compliment for buying something she likes for herself? Must be nice up there!

My MIL got me one 3 years ago before they were so SUPER trendy. It's covered in logos but it's a great bag so I can't bring myself to replace it lol. I may or may not be basic but I am most definitely cheap.

I like them for when I travel for work because they are structured, have a decent amount of pockets inside, I can fit my 13" Macbook perfectly, and if they get ink on them or some other mishap, it's not a fortune to replace. I work in an industry where flash is generally looked down on and MK is the upper limit of what is acceptable.

OP, buy it if you like it! There must be plenty of "basic" people out there because I get compliments all the time.
