One year I got my camper husband a fire starter like this but a little more artisinal:

This is a little more than you wish to spend, but REI has a great rechargeable flashlight with a USB port for charging phones as well.

What on earth does that smell like? 
socks credit card multi tool.. one of those things that's the size of a credit card so he can keep it in his wallet fireplace gloves other years I have gotten him fire starters and these colored-fire-things for our fire pit crazy thing... one year out of desperation I got him a trunk organizer for his car (it's bigger than mine and it's the one we use if we need to move something large/messy/etc. Several years later, he mentioned the other day what a great contraption it is and how that was such a good idea (he can take all the daily crap from his car, out of the car in one easy step, then replace it after he's moved the big Whatever). |

| My husband is into cooking and really digs the Marcus Samuelson cookbook, which he received as a gift two Christmases ago and it remains a mainstay. The food is delicious and the recipes are challenging but not impossible (ahem, April Bloomfield) and the ingredients interesting but not so exotic you can't find them. |
