stupid question - can you wear a bra during labor? if so, sports bra or nursing bra or just a regul

Re: the going to the bathroom part, I second the PP. You can go if you feel like going--just have them unhook you from the monitors. If you're concerned about pooping--in my case I had an epidural so wasn't really aware of anything going on down there. My husband told me later that I'd pooped, or I wouldn't have even known it.

I wore a loose jog bra during labor, and that was it. I refused to wear the gown once I was fully dialated, and I'm a pretty modest person. It all flies out the window. But I am glad I had the bra on. I'm well "endowed" and am not generally comfortable with my girls hanging out. I would have hated the pictures that way.

I pooped both times during labor while pushing and no one batted an eye, except for maybe my husband who was right there to see it. As the pp said, the drs and/or nurses are used to it, and are right there to clean everything up. In the scheme of the messiness of delivering a baby, a little poop is nothing to them.

I'm the one who had the catheter. I wasn't allowed off the monitor (had to use a bedpan before they put in the catheter so I feel like I got to experience it all). You just never know what to expect. I was also worried about pooping during labor, and I did. I had an epidural so wasn't too sure what I was feeling. I actually thought it might be the paby coming out, but since nobody said anything I suspected it was the other. I asked my husband later if that was the case, and he said yes. Thank God I didn't ask, Is that the baby? I would have been mortified if the doctor had to reply, no, you just pooped!!! The nurse kept everything very clean though, and honestly, it wasn't a big deal. I just tried not to think about it too much. I guess i would say, don't let anyone in the delivery room with you unless you are okay having them witness these things.

I solemnly swear on my grandmother's grave that at some point during your labor you will stop caring. I promise. That said, if you are more comfortable wearing a bra when you deliver, go for it. I think it is probably an easy battle to win, if it's something you wind up having to argue about with folks wherever you give birth. I'm pretty sure my midwives wouldn't have cared if I had on a gold lame bra, a top hat and a pink tutu, so long as they could get to my nether regions.

...that tutu got itchy, though... just kidding.
