| They don't take insurance but we went to Stixrud which is a large, weLL know, local practice. We had a really good experience and were in crisis so we couldn't wait for an appointment at Childrens. They got us in very quickly. We just paid on a credit card and are financing it that way. |
If You mean Adele Green, she is now is now with Dr. Black's practice. |
| KKI & Children's are the only places that accept insurance. In October, Children's had a wait list to April. I don't believe Kellar Center does neuropsych testing. My son is a patient there for adhd medication management and when I asked the front desk, they said they didn't do it. The school there might have some suggestions. I just paid out of pocket for private testing and it gave me so many answers, worth every penny. But, not inexpensive in the least. |
Adele Green is now working WITH David Black. both are excellent, thoughtful and know what they're doing. No, they don't take insurance but none of the good ones do. Actually none of the bad ones do either. OP has options. KKI, Childrens or the county. Or pay the $3K-$4K and submit to insurance for maybe partial reimbursement. |
| Anyone know why Adele Green left Stixrud? I find that curious. |
I do know, she is a friend of mine so I will not divulge that information. I will however say that it's not as "curious" or strange as you would think, she was with the practice for many years and is very highly respected. let's just say that sometimes you move on because its just time to move on. |
Ain't that the truth?

DR Daisy Pascualvaca and Dr Julie Smallman. Both are SUPERB. I have used them twice. And recommended to three different families, all of whom agreed the experience was life-changing.
Not cheap, sadly. http://www.pascualvaca.com |
I would not recommend Black. Even my DD's psychologist was appalled by the process and lack of reliable content, data and professionalism. You might as well throw 4K in the toilet. |
|
Mindwell Psychology in Chantilly, Virginia. Very thoughtful and thorough.
Don't take insurance but we got some portion reimbursed. Cost was $2900 for full neuropsych for a 15 yo. |
We had a different experience; every professional who has seen the report Black wrote for us has commented on how thorough it is. But a professional has to be consistent. |
I just re-read my post and realized I wasn't clear. What I meant was, even though we had a good experience with Black, to really be good, he needs to be consistently good. |

Dr Black did a wonderful report on our 5 yo boy - it NAILED my son's strengths and weaknesses.
He also has helped us with IEP meetings, and helped us with strategy, etc. We have met at least a half dozen other parents through school, sports, camp and other various places each of who had a similar, fantastic experience with Dr Black and their son. For some reason, we keep running into parents of sons. Also, we have heard from so many school heads and other experts that David is top drawer. I have never heard anything different. |
| We loved David Black's report and manner too, and every professional who has seen it (including my academic psychiatrist father) has been very impressed. Best money I have spent in my whole life. But clearly there is no pleasing everybody. For every highly regarded professional in this area, there is someone on this board who had a bad experience with them! |
| I work at Children's (not in neuropsych department). In order of preference I would recommend Children's or Kennedy Krieger for the behaviors described. they will accept insurance. Stixrud is where I would go if I could not get into either of those but Stixrud will not accept insurance. |
