I was one of them! I LOVED skating - had no talent, but LOVED it. True, once you get good enough, a little athleticism is necessary to progress. But who knows? Maybe she is athletic, but just not in traditional ways?

For my own 6 yo non athletic son, we've seen that he really likes to run. He's done a few "fun runs" and although he's far from the front of the pack, he has real endurance and is very proud of himself when he completes a race.

I agree this is a good idea. Lots of girls are doing TKD these days, and they really focus on self discipline and other important skills for kids as well as exercise.

What?! I guess I don't get what OP means by non-athletically inclined- are you talking about not loving competition or not being coordinated. Because that change answers drastically. I know swimming gets thrown around a lot with this question- its GREAT for learning and getting energy out- like any sport, at a certain age, it does matter if you are athletic or not (I was a college swimmer) and won't be fun if you are only around those who excel at it, but I always say its great for all kids at this age.
