Is a job during the school year good or bad?

Summer jobs only in my house. They have to save some for spending money during the school year.

Of course, but only assuming all things are equal or you have a poverty background. But a regular middle and upper middle class kid working at the ice cream shop doesn't excuse a lower GPA and SAT score.

I think it depends on how much lower. If it's a difference between a 4.0 with no job or activity and a 3.8 or so with several, I'm not sure it's so clear-cut. Lower than about a 3.75 I would tend to agree.
