The US divorce rate is at a 40 year low

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. Marriage rates are way down. Co-habitation and singles are way up.

"The share of adults who are married has been steadily declining for decades. In 2014, just half of Americans were married, down from 57% in 2000. In 1960, 72% of U.S. adults were married." - Pew Research Center

Wow, yes, this is it. People simply aren't marrying anymore. There are less people married now than ever before.

I think the institution is doomed.

Fewer. Fewer people are getting married.

In my family, people have figured out its cheaper and less messy to simply live apart rather than divorce. And for the men, they have a built in excuse to give their long suffering girlfriends as to why they cannot marry again. All fifty and up by the way.

If it takes two working adults to support a household, that means most of us can't afford to split up.

How is it cheaper? They still have to split households.

Fewer middle class and lower people are getting married. Another reason for increasing inequality. It's hard as a single person to compete with the financial resources of a married couple.

Yep, happening in my family too, among my blue collar family members.

No, they don't. Once each one has a house - everyone takes care of their own mortgage (if they're not already all paid off) and their own household expenses. Generally by this age the kids are also all out of the house.

Actually lesser people are getting married and know when they have it good. Lesser people will put up with a lot

Fear of STDs especially rampant spread of HPV through casual contact (kissing, etc.).

Moron.

It's because less people are getting married in the first place.

Less people are married today than ever before in our nation.

Fewer.

The number of people getting married has nothing to do with with the divorce RATE, only the absolute number of divorces.

Moron.
