Can we make the politcal forum username only?

I'd be strongly against it in light of our new overlords.

What new overlords? DCUM has had the same overlords since the forums were established.

If you're referring to the Trump Administration...they'll be able to find who they want username or no.

Obama can too, obvs.

I think it's probably a good idea. Though, I won't post there there anymore. Sticking to the mommy wars is much better for my mental health.

Maybe Jeff could just implement a reddit-style up vote/downvote system

Great idea!

IP address?

vpn gets around that

Do people go through that much trouble? Reddit doesn't have this problem, and that is based on user ID's for every single post/response, regardless of topic.

That would kill the forum.

No, it wouldn't. If people want to speak their views, they will create an alias.

Or start a blog.

It killed the explicit forum. I suspect it will kill the political forum too.

If you don't like it, don't read it, pretty simple. Instead of asking Jeff to make it your safe space, how about dealing with it like an adult?

The problem is all the spam posts that seem to be written by either paid posters or the seriously mentally disturbed.

Again, how about just don't click? Is it that hard?

It's like the explicit one, a lot of the "offended" people know a lot about a place the supposedly don't read.

Many of the posters on there presently are apparantly either not themselves adults or are not in full possession of their critical thinking skills. I enjoy politics. I do not enjoy normalizing the behaviors of bullies and the unintelligent.

As it is now, it has absolutely no value. The trolls need to go.

Anonymous wrote:Hey Jeff, I'm a bit of a lurker on the politics forum and usually read/post elsewhere, but please don't do this. It seems so fundamentally wrong from a free speech perspective. I know you do moderate and do a thoughtful job, so it's not 100% free as is, but "registration" to submit political views seems like it would leave an especially bad taste these days. There are definitely trolls, but there are also strongly and legitimately held disagreements. If recent events have shown us anything, it's that we need to learn to communicate with others despite such strong disagreements so that we can really hear each other. /s/ a bit of a Pollyanna
