These are all great but a bit narrowly white-focused. If you are disheartened by the current time, don't also isolate yourself in your watching, viewing, etc.

Movies: Friday (a classic in my mind), Waiting to Exhale, Monsoon Wedding, Bend if Like Beckham

Books - I'd turn to re-reading some classics in the Austen, Dickens - maybe Gatsby, A Confederacy of Dunces, My Antonia, something Zadie Smith.

How I Met Your Mother
Gilmore Girls
Life in Pieces (funniest sit-com in years, perhaps ever - the TG episode had me in tears)

Movies:

About Time

Books:

A Man Called Ove
Bossypants - Tina Fey
Let's Pretend this Never Happened - Jenny Lawson

NP abut good to know. I always avoided it because I thought it would be too sad

Some of them are incredibly sad and difficult to watch, but they all redeem themselves at the end. But the sad parts are sad. Now that I'm a mother I can't watch it at all.

Give me some Friday night lights, though.

TV:

Born this Way
Jane the Virgin

Can't think of a recent heartwarming movie, but I'm wanting to see Arrival. It's getting real really good reviews.
