Teacher Training Days / Wednesdays?

Anonymous
I too am a DCPS teacher and I like the schedule because hopefully the timing of the materials presented will be relevant and I will be able to use what I have learned immediately in the classroom. Personally, I would prefer the set up that some of the other school systems have where the kids get out early one day a week for staff pd.
There is no guarantee that people will not take these days as sick but they still must use sick leave and they will not get the pd. Are there rules about when staff may take leave at other places of employment?

I spend my summer planning for the next schoolyear. In order for me to intelligently integrate these strategies and techniques into my annual plan, I need to get these pearls of wisdom the week before summer break. If this is really great PD, I want to be able to apply it starting the day school starts. My students deserve that.

I believe the reason the training days are the friday before a 3 day weekend is so that the least number of parents are inconveniences. More people are likely to want to take a family vacation around the three day weekend, so they won't need to look for child care and/or take their kids out of school on an actual learning day.

People are this board are so crazy paranoid that everyone is "pulling on over" on them or engaged in bad behavior.
Sheesh.
