Scrabble slam is a fun card game. You can play it with him if you go easy.

My whole childhood was playing 2 player card and board games with my sister. There are so many.... Chess, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, Monopoly, Mastermind, Battleship, Boggle, Scrabble, Rummikub, Sorry, Rack-o, Yahtzee, Stratego, Risk. My kids also love these games as well as some newer games such as Qwirkle and Qwixx. Have fun!

I third Stratego! I started playing at 10 or so with my mom on her set from college and now DH and I can't play bc of the huge friendly arguments we get into over it when we visit her. So fun for two- sort of like battleship but less juvenile.

My son (10) and I play a ton of board games. We love many of the games mentioned, especially Ticket to Ride. The games I've listed below take less time to play and are old favorites. Enjoy!

Sequence
Kazink
Sleeping Queens

Also, get some poker chips and teach him to play poker and blackjack! Lots of fun.
