How much do you talk or do things with spouse?

Anonymous
We have been married 15+ years and have two small children.

We usually email each other once a day.

We try to talk at least a little bit every night once the kids are in bed. We talk at dinner with the kids, but it's limited to only certain topics because the kids are participating.

We get a babysitter and go out on a date every other weekend, at least. This is essential. If you can't afford a babysitter, find another couple and do babysitting trades.

We do couples therapy once a week during a weekday when we meet at a counselor's office. We have been doing this for a couple years and it has helped us a lot. I am hoping we will be able to stop fairly soon because now talking about things has become more normal for us, but it wasn't for a long time. My DH did not like to talk about our relationship or problems and it was a big issue.

DH and i cut out of work early 1-2xs a month and hit happy hour. We are also runners and have done a few marathons and get a ton of talking done on long runs. It is kind of weird, but weve had our most relaxed and productive discussions when running. We've always had live in child care precisely because it enables us to have the flexibility to still do things as a couple.

It's pretty transactional, with occasional vents about work, kids, or extended family as needed.

We're both really tired.

One thing we don't do is talk to each other during the day. We never did unless it was needed. If I can't make it to the store, I send him an email and he'll pick up whatever.

We cook together, shop together, talk about current events, when he takes a bath I sit on my little bench and we talk. Just chit chat. Then we watch shows we both like. We are and will always be best friends besides husband and wife. Kids are grown and gone. We have a great life together.

Next week he's going to be on vacation. We have small projects planned.

There is nothing I can't talk to him about. Nothing.
