What are the characteristics of a "state name"? Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Illinois, Massachusetts, Hawaii, etc. None of these are words in English.

ITA with your second point. The name is the least of our issues.

But if there was a popular vote just on the name (which there wasn't, OP), I'd be down with Autonomous Region of Rock Creek Anacostia

How about Potomacostia?

Because statehood's gonna' costia a lot.

How about calling the state 'Barry-ho"?!

I vote for LOL! This dysfunctional mess of a city doesn't deserve statehood.

Start saying "Maryland", because that's the only way DC will ever get representation.

DC will never be a state.

Even naming it Reagania wouldn't get through Congress.

DCstatehood is like some fantasy wet dream for DC's politicos. Imagine being able to fill patronage in both state and local offices. With greater ability to raise new taxes. and more elective offices. What's not to like, unless you're a DC taxpayer having to foot the bill?!

I think DC taxpayers would like to get some representation in exchange for their taxation.

Then the ticket is to focus on (re)joining Maryland, which will give the city representation in Congress - instead of chasing the fool's gold of statehood, which would never happen in a Democratic Congress, and would be hopelessly inefficient and costly for DC taxpayers!
