Tall women- do you like being tall?

I'm 5'10", and yes I do. I'm also lucky because I somehow escaped the angst that a lot of tall girls feel growing up, and I was 5'8" at 12, so I was up there.

I'm 5'9 and love being tall for all of the reasons others have said. TBH, I fantasize about being thinner but not shorter. I wear heels whenever I want. This is helped by the fact that my entire family is tall -- DH is 6'3", one DS's are 6'1" and 6'3", and DD is 5'8". I fit right in!

I'm 5'11" and had horrible problems about it until I reached my mid-20s and realized the power that my height added.
I believe height is positively associated with men and that that positive association carries over to tall women.

My husband is 3 inches shorter than I am, and he kind of gets some respect for landing a "big" fish.

Tall girls - I'm so happy to hear you say you also have short husbands!

I love being tall at 5'9 (although I consider that to be on the short side of tall). Even as a kid, I always loved it. Now, I'm very much appreciative of my strong, athletic body type. Wouldn't change it for anything.

Yes, I do now. I'm 5'9"...hated being tall in high school, now I think it's great for all the reasons listed above. Plus, I feel like both my pregnancies were less uncomfortable b/c there was more room for the baby to hang out, I never got the bladder/cervix crushing sensation and my ribs were less battered haha.

What counts as tall?

I'm 5'8. Tall to me is a woman who is 5'10 and above.

I like being my height. I would love to be taller - about 5'10 would be great.

PP here. I was an average to short child and wanted very badly to be tall. When I grew to 5'8, I was thrilled and wanted to keep growing. I have no idea why anyone would want to be short and have most of the world towering above them. I wear 3-4" heels, which guarantees I am taller than most people in any given room.

DH is only 5'10 and I wish he was taller.

5'10"

I've almost always liked it. It can be a pain to find clothes that fit, and I suppose there were men who didn't want to date me, and the airlines reducing leg room didn't do me any favors, but mostly it's great. I'm an attorney now, and having a more commanding physical presence is useful. Also, I can reach stuff on high shelves, which comes in handy. And yes, I wear high heels when I want to.

I'm 5'8" and I spent about 20 years wishing I was 5'6" instead. 5'8" is kind of an awkward height because you're too tall for regular clothes and too short for tall clothes so things never quite fit without alterations. It took the boys at school forever to catch up to me in height and then I moved here where the guys aren't that tall either. You have to watch your weight because if you get too big, you start resembling Dorothy from the Golden Girls, which isn't exactly sexy.

Then at one point, women started wearing high heels with their jeans - I credit Sex and the City - and manufacturers started making jeans and pants in more lengths. All of a sudden, my pants weren't borderline high-water anymore. Game changer.

At 44, I've apparently started shrinking! According to my doctor, I'm now 5'7 and 3/4. I'm cool with it.

10:28 here - forgot two big advantages of being tall. I can reach stuff for people at the grocery store (which I do often for little old ladies.) And I don't get as claustrophobic in crowds. I think crowds would be problematic for me if I was 5'2".

I'm 5'10" and I enjoy it, especially when I'm at a good weight. During a rough period of my life, I dropped down to like, 115 lbs and that was just waaaay to small for my height and looking back at pictures I just looked really odd. I got huge during pregnancy and popped up to 200 and I felt like a giant. I think I'm at a comfortable place now at 150.

Weight factors aside, I like that I'm tall, I like taking big strides when I walk, I like being able to see over most peoples heads in a crowd. My DH is 6'1" so I feel I can comfortably wear heels when out with him. I've dated shorter guys before and it was never a real problem for me, tho the last one took issue with my height and complained about it, didn't want me to walk side by side with him so F that guy!

I guess the only real issues I have with it is like others have said, finding clothes that fit can be a pain. It's also uncomfortable to sit in the back seat of a car or in a window seat on a plane.

To me, anything 4" or taller than the average for your "group" (be it all women, a certain heritage, etc) would be tall. An average Caucasian woman is 5' 4.6". I agree 5'8" is on the bubble for being tall. You're visibly taller than the average if you're in a group of women, but not so tall that you're necessarily recognized as such when standing by yourself.

Just a bit shorter than 6 feet, and I do love being tall! My boyfriend is 5'6", and to be honest I never think much about the height difference. He has a lot of confidence, and I always thought that picking a mate based on height was kind of dumb.

I love to take photos, and being tall is often an advantage there. And, like one of the earlier posters said, tall women can use their height to command a bit more presence when needed.

The only drawback to being tall is that I can remember how hard it was to find appropriate shoes when I was a preteen because of my big feet.

Wait - I just thought of a drawback to being tall. I'm 5'9 and husband is about 5'8. His family isn't that tall/big either. Anytime we take family pictures with them, I just feel like I look so huge. Compared to them, I guess I am but I prefer having my picture taken with people who aren't smaller.

I'm 5'8 and love being tall! Look better in clothes and if you gain 5-10 pounds you can stretch it out and still look good.
