I know what a golf wife is, but what's a golf clap? |
Curious: are you home with them when they're sick or is a nanny home with them? If it's you, what DO you do? Do you read to them for 10 hours a day? |
| When my kids were sick I would let them watch unlimited tv. This is what I did when I was sick as a kid. Then when my kids were better they went back on their schedule. Perhaps your kid will be a bit bored with it now that he has unlimited access. But, you can always re-introduce the rules again. |
I LOVED the Price is Right, and Family Feud!!! |
If it's during the week the nanny is home with them predominantly though some days DH or I work from home . On weekends DH and I are. The older one reads to herself, they color, they play with their dolls, they tell stories to the dog, they lay outside and nap. they listen to music, or audio stories. I suppose all kids are different but mine are low-energy when they're sick. They basically lay around not talking much or dong anything. I know they're feeling better when they start going on the floor to play. |
| If they're sick, it's not like they should be doing something other than laying around, so TV is actually better than them trying to force themselves to play. I try to sneak in some extra reading too, but they already feel crappy and don't really understand why, so if they want TV... |
| I let them watch as much as they want. 30 mins max when they are well. |

What do you do when you are sick, op?
Exercise? Read? Imaginative play? When I'm sick, I lay in bed, sleep and watch tv. And that's what my kids do when they are sick. Once they feel up to playing, then they play. |
| I don't limit screen time at all, even when DD is not sick, but when she is sick the amount she watches goes way, way up. Usually she would watch some TV and otherwise play other things, do crafts, maybe go outside depending on the weather, but when she's sick all she wants to do is lay on the couch and be a lump. If she's awake either I'm reading to her or she's watching something. What else is there to do? I remember watching a ton of TV when I was home sick as a kid... one of the few times it was allowed unlimited for me or my siblings. |
| Sweet! DS home tomorrow sick and totally forgot about the price is right. Game on. |
| I posted here a few weeks ago about my DD screaming in the middle of the night with severe stomach pain. For those nights, I lay down on the sofa with her and watched DVR Sesame Street until the pain passed and she could sleep. She'd be crying "I'm tired but it hurts too much to sleep" so we just snuggled sometimes at 1 or 2 in the morning with TV which helped distract her. Thank goodness she's better now and it's been easy going back to pre-sick tv / screen time rules. |
| You stink |
| Generally I focus on the average amount of screens and don't martyr myself with sicknesses |
| No limits when sick in our house |
| No limits but nothing “good” - lots of HGTV and cooking shows because they are easy to fall asleep to. |
