My fiancé has something that sounds similar. My first reaction when he brought it home was "holy f*** this thing is heavy!"

Mine is memory foam. It's lasted longer than the other, lighter synthetic material ones I had before it. But I don't find it quite as comfortable.

I have one also. A Tempurpedic brand that I've used nightly for 13+ years. It took a couple days to get used to but ended up being a godsend. I used to wake up with tension headaches daily and no more once I got a good pillow. Make the investment and it will be a long time before you need to do it again.
