Hearst Principal Leaving

I'm actually a parent on the Hearst PTA. The principal has been replaced by Mr. William Kerlina. He will be on board at the school beginning July 20, 2009. I encourage parents to seek information by visiting the Hearst Website. The information will be updated frequently beginning in the next couple of weeks.

I wrote to Michelle Rhee last week and was forwarded to a member of the "Critical Response Team" who told me there was no plan on the books for expansion. I am not trying to be disruptive--I am the future member of the Hearst in-boundary who wishes the school to succeed for any future children I have. I do not want to print her response since I consider email private without permission to publish; however I will forward her your post and ask if she wishes to give me a correction. Will keep you posted (pardon the pun). Also, since you are on the PTA I look forward to coming by and meeting you. Again, I believe in investing in the well-being of neighborhood schools. (I am an educator and know that community involvement that is proactive and realistic, matters)>

I am an in-bound Hearst Parent and member of the Hearst PTA. Hearst is expanding to add a 4th grade this school year and a 5th grade next year.
A fourth grade teacher is already in place and the learning cottage that will house the expansion of school for the next few years before the scheduled building renovation is currently on-site and awaiting final placement on the property. Hearst has much to offer and more and more neighborhood families are getting past these message board rumors and actually visiting the school and seeing what Hearst has to offer and deciding to attend the school. If you would like more and accurate information about Hearst yourself. Call or stop by the school. It continues to amaze me how many people depend on the rumors perpetuated on websites and don't visit a school or find out information first hand, especially when they claim to be concerned parents.

Everyone interested in Hearst -- please feel free to get in touch with me about Hearst. I have an upcoming 1st grader at the school and an upcoming pre-k student as well. I am highly involved in the school, have started the school's green team, and was on the personnel committee that selected the new principal. Our new principal comes highly recommended from Takoma Park elementary and we are all very excited about having him on board. He is very interested in getting the community more involved at the school and plans to continue enhancing Hearst's already excellent program. If you would like to hear more about the school, please email me at selena@visalawgroup.com and I would be happy to talk further. My family, by the way, really loves Hearst and we are an in-boundary family for those of you who are wondering. More and more in-boundary families are joining us, which is great news!
