Interesting. The plan language does not appear to have changed at all, though? |
|
At first glance it appears that in 2017 GEHA and BCBS still won't cover IVF BUT they will cover "gender reassignment" surgery. WTF. Insurance covers that stuff but still doesn't give a damn about IVF.

Which clinic told you this? It's unclear to me how they would differentiate between blood work that's for monitoring vs. diagnostic purposes? Same for ultrasounds. Seems like it would come down to how the doctor's office submits. I too used CFA in the past and BCBS covered all my monitoring costs with no issues. |
| The language in the 2016 and 2017 FEP BCBS booklets regarding fertility coverage has not changed (pages 52-53). Anyone have any insight into how else you would figure out that monitoring is not included by looking at the 2017 coverage booklet? |
GW told me this. They told me to get my cycle in in 2016 as monitoring would not be covered in 2017. |
| i was the other person who posted about hearing this - I also heard it from Gw. |
| Could someone who goes there ask GW how they know this? It would be really helpful since the brochure doesn't seem to reflect any change. |
They will no longer submit the claims to BCBS. |
|
So it's covered (?), but you will have to submit yourself? I'm curious to know if GW can actually do that - my understanding that an insurer won't let you be charged more and pay out of pocket for services that are covered.
Has anyone talked to anyone at BCBS about this? Disappointing that GW is doing this if it's just a matter of their convenience. Having BCBS cover monitoring has saved me about $800 this cycle with an IUI. |
|
If you are doing IUI, I'd stick with Kaiser. They will still cover IUIs at 50% and there's still the catastrophic out-of-pocket, which at high is $2500.00. So, no matter how many IUIs you'll have, you will only pay out of pocket a total of $2500 next year.

| Ok, so is there no plan that covers any fertility treatment? I currently have BCBS. After two surgeries for uterine resection and endometriosis (both of which were covered by BCBS) I am trying, but my doctor says there is a low chance of conceiving naturally. Trying to figure out if I need to change plans now. |
From what people are saying, none of the fed plans are covering IVF anymore. I've only checked my own (http://www.aetnafeds.com/pdf/2017/2017CapitalHMOBrochure.pdf) but for 2017 it will cover nothing for IUI or IVF (it used to be 50%). It is still covering testing at 50%. |
You should switch to BCBS fed, they covered 100% of testing for me. |
| I think what GW is saying is that they should not have been submitting the claims to Fed BCBS all along so no longer will. I understand that this has been SG's practice all along. |
I have BCBS Fed Basic, so I am thinking I should stick with that. Thanks! |
