Sad that this generates more buzz than Iran.

I don't know -- there's been an awful lot of press about Iran since the election. Celebrity news always gets a ton of press b/c entertainment is people's escape from the more serious side of life.

This reminds me of a question I've always wanted to ask Jeff-can we have a Michael Jackson Forum?

I am not trying to sound nasty and I am certainly distressed about the situation in Iran and my heart goes out to them, but I am just curious if you feel that they should not talk about MJ bc of the situation in Iran? M.J touched alot of ppl's lives thru his music and was a legend in the entertainment biz - it is completely acceptable for ppl to be shocked and sad by the news.

The two are not mutually exclusive. The news can and does cover both. And, frankly, as a child who grew up during his prime, his songs were like a sound track to my childhood and adolescence. He was a creepy, weird dude in the end but, many, he was a kick ass, legendary musician whose death deserves to be covered.

BTW, what are you doing to solve the problems in Iran? Hopefully, something big if you are judging people for caring about the death of a legend.

Thank God. I always believed the accusations of abuse, and thought his own children were at risk.

I say thank god that we don't have to hear about Iran all day long now. I'm sick of hearing about Iran, I'm fatigued of the entire middle east.

I'm gald we have something to distract us from boring Iran.

Victory Tour RFK early 80s - he was the best in his prime.

I don't care what anyone says about his personal life. I've always been a fan, always will. He was the greatest performer of all time.

I don't know who could possibly watch this clip from a live performance of Billie Jean and not get goose bumps. His live performances on You Tube are amazing, makes me sad that I was too young in the 80s to see him live. At the end of the day, I think MJ is a tragic figure and he died a lonley man.

It's true, he was an amazing performer and I'm really in shock. Some of the other posters here are too young to remember when MTV first started and he had videos that are still better than a lot of the stuff put out today.

That was an awesome clip. I remember watching Motown 25 when it aired and he performed with his brothers first and then he performed Billie Jean and did the moonwalk for the first time on air. We recorded it on our VCR and I must have watched that at least 100 times as a kid. RIP MJ.

Not only that MJ was the first black person ever to be shown on MTV.

True, but he lost all my respect once he was accused of child molestation. He admitted he let boys (who were sleeping over) come into his bed. He most likely had his own children so he could molest them, and not worry about settlements and such. Great performer, but a pedophile.

Just stay with us in the early mid-80s!!

I am the poster who suggested a Michael Jackson forum-maybe a bit in bad taste, but there is no denying that Jackson was one of the most talented individuals of the 20th century and also probably the most other-worldly, alien like beings to exist in that same century. Untimely deaths of celebrities such as Princess Diana, JFK Jr., Anna Nicole Smith may come to mind, but if Michael Jackson was and still is an icon, it is because he was certainly unlike anyone else in terms of lifestyle, talent, publicity, personal and public endeavors and is almost a history book caricature of the computer-connected age of modernity we occupy at this time. In other words, the dude was far out.
