Vet screwed up big time-what should I do?

Anonymous
OP again, had I rushed over to regular vet-our dog would be dead, I would be living with guilt that I hastened their death for the rest of my life and we would not have known they misdiagnosed dog.

You say you are just looking for opinions.

You have been given opinions.

I don't say that casually. I had a pretty awful time when I hired a well-regarded professional to care for my elderly cat when we needed to go out of town. She ignored obvious symptoms and went completely against my care instructions and lied about it. I was at the emergency vet 10 minutes after arriving home and finding my pet unresponsive. It was awful and I really, really wanted to punish this person for negligence and costing me my cat plus thousands of dollars on top of her exorbitant fees that were pre-paid, but nothing was going to change what had happened.

It sounds like you know you still have a rough year ahead with a sick dog. Save your energy and enjoy the time you have.

How do you know?

Vets are well trained, see a crap load more of experience than human docs do. They usually know a lot, get it right. Sometimes there's a mistake. You got your refund. Leave a review if you must. But they're not responsible for everything your dog is going through, every decision you make.

Given the severity of this error, I doubt it has been their "one".

OP again, I also think giving them bad reviews on various sites, would end up costing them way more business than $600.

OP isn't interested in hearing anything she doesn't agree with. Better title would be "Vet screwed up big time - VENT!" because that's what this really is.

Seems like you must work there if you know how many animals they have seen and they only made one error-damage control???

Perhaps you are right. Now that things are calmer, and had time to process, I am pissed.

I would write out a letter to the vet, spelling out the facts of what happened, and asking for an apology.

I would look for another vet as well.

Because I'm psychic.

Apologies. They almost assuredly are not going to pay the ER bill.

But definitely sue them. Obviously the money is the most important thing here or you would have taken the dog to the vet for severe constipation/impaction and not tried to DIY.

I'm convinced you work there now-Goshen right? I was not in the mood to drag a 30 pound dog to the ER vet 30 miles away at 11pm for a ball of hard shit hanging from her ass, and spend $1,000 plus for that (which it likely would have cost)-I was going to, but then thought it would not be that hard to remove it myself (not like I was doing open heart surgery), sadly, we need to prioritize as we are just merely middle class (likely poor by DCUM standards). $600 is not going to make or break us, or your clinic-it is a matter of principle at this point. And you are pissing me off even more!

Ha ha ha. You are paranoid. I live in Florida.

Op - you took the dog in for a routine shot and then sprang the lethargy, severe constipation and how you assisted the dog with getting the poop out.

If you were gentle with your dog why did you believe that you could have caused such a traumatic injury? There wasn't any blood, right? I guess I don't understand the basis for the vet's opinion that this was a severe rectal tear that required surgery.

Well then perhaps you should not just randomly throw out numbers like that-and saying things that are false.
