My starting salary in house in the DC area was $165k plus 20% bonus. I joined after 6 years in Biglaw.

And it is far more prone to layoffs than even firms. 120-130 is typical inhouse salary in DC area for people 5-7 yrs out of law school.

True, and even harder for litigators because only fairly large companies have much need for in-house litigation people. Flip side is litigators might have better options in gov than someone who did m&a or other transactional work.

seems low to me but maybe market has changed. when I made the switch 10 years ago, in house was offering around 140K base plus another $50-60 bonus.

Never heard of an in-house job with that big of a bonus percentage unless you're potentially talking about GC.

That is a low bonus at my company but I do believe we are at the top of the market....no one leaves until forced out. New hires in recent years have been more around what you mention though as they unload higher paid attorneys and hire more junior counsel for less than they used to hire people at the same experience level.

Well, there is going to be virtually no hiring at the SEC for the foreseeable future. Assuming you need or want to leave Biglaw soonish, that probably won't be an option and it is tough to get into even in normal times.

I want this job!

Does anybody know what Capital One pays inhouse counsel? Any division/position.

I'd check out glassdoor.com, will be more accurate than any anecdotes provided here.

DH is in-house at a Pharma company. He is about 120k plus bonus which is only 10-15k. It varies so much.

What geo area? I have multiple friends at top 10 pharma companies and they all started around $180 base with $40-60k bonus. All coming from big law as 6-7 year associates

Wow - is that here? I have friends in big pharma in NJ - all started around 175-180k plus bonus. Same with a friend in San Fran in that industry. Pharma is one of the top payers in house - after banking.

The pay there is not good. I interviewed when I had 5-6 years of biglaw experience (all banking law experience that was on point for the job) and they offered me around 110k-115k base. I turned it down.
