On the 1% chance you are not a troll, yes, your question was bad. People here don't approve of allowing 5 year olds to play video games.

Video games make kids smarter, so "people here" are ignorant or anti-science.

Ha ha ha. Good try.

Minecraft is good.

We don't do too many games for our 5 yo twins, but so far we've gotten them games around shows that they enjoy. So, they love Paw Patrol and we downloaded Paw Patrol games on tablets.

If you want to experiment with free games to see the types of games they might like, go to http://www.nickjr.com/games/ and experiment with some of the games. You can play them yourself or let your kid play them to see what you/she/he likes. You can either just let them play the free versions or you can invest in buying similar types of games.

I'll bite. We bought a Wii U for our older child. He ended up not liking it very much for our 5 yo loves Just Dance. I wouldn't let her do it in her room but it's fun occasionally and I even dance with her. It's in the family rec room.

Minecraft is very popular for kids because it is a "sandbox" game especially in "creative" (versus survival, which has zombies) mode sort of like 3-D Legos. It works better on an iPad than on a PC.

Can he read yet? Focus on that. And for god's sakes take the TV out of the kids room. Be a parent.

Starfall, Raz Kids, ABC Mouse and ST Math would be more appropriate.

5 is too young, give his brain a few few more years to deveop and his body a little more exercise before he turns into a stupid, fat video game playing moron who can't tear himself away to do his homework. Take it from someone who had a friend flunk out of college because he was addicted to Madden games.

NP. Actually, PP is correct. There are studies out there supporting gaming. I let my kids play video games. DS started around 4 when he saw us playing.

My DC enjoyed both Plants vs Zombies and Monument Valley when he was 5. Although I had to help a little, he mostly completed these on his own and seemed to love them.

Other puzzle games like Cut the Rope or Where's my Water are probably good choices as well.

My K (and when she was PK too) played minecraft.

I know I'm in the minority.

Minecraft is a pretty awesome game! I say if you are ok with video games it might be the best one to start with.
