| The Penderwicks. About a family of four girls and their dad on vacation - perfect for a vacation drive. |
I'd say Tom Sawyer is too intense for a 7 year old. |
|
Geronimo Stilton, bunicula, magic treehouse.
My kids' absolute favorite though is Matilda, read by Kate winslet. When we first got it we listened to it three times in a row. It's phenomenal. |
| Anne of Green Gables or All of a Kind Family |
| The bfg, Matilda or Charlie and the chocolate factory. Bfg first. |
It's really well done, but can be a little scary/dramatic. |
| We just listened to Roald Dahl's "The Witches", it was 5 hours long, both my 4 and 6 yo enjoyed it. |
| I've said this before, but my kids LOVE listening to Roald Dahl books. They are funny, easy to follow, and my husband and I find them entertaining as well. |
Jim Dale does a great job with Rowling's weak prose. Imaginative storylines, but might be a little scary depending on the kid. |
|
My kids have always done best with Audiobooks when they are already familiar with the story. Beloved book they have already read. Movie you never read the book with. Etc.
Also, for short stories, check out Jim Weiss. He is delightful. |
See my related question. What do you think about Bunnicula for a young 5 year old? |
|
Mr. Popper's Penguins!!
Both of our kids loved it. |
It's great. My 4.5 yo and 8 yo both liked it a lot. |
Weak prose??? |
| We downloaded the Henry Huggins collection from Audible, which is 15 hours, and have deployed it successfully on multiple long car trips (both DS and DD love it, and DH and I usually end up chuckling too). Neil Patrick Harris does much of the narrating and is very good. |
