Do all ADHD kids wake at the crack of dawn? How can I get my kid to sleep later?

He knows now not to wake us but he plays in his room, sometimes loudly, and that wakes both me and his little brother up. No matter what time he goes to bed he gets up early. He is incapable of sleeping late and just once in a while I would like to sleep till 7 on a Saturday. Also, since the late MoCo start times we have some time in the am for more sleep and I would like to use it. He is clearly so tired by the end of the day I think he would benefit from an hour more on a daily basis.

I let my son listen to music on his headphones in the morning so that he wouldn't wake me up at the crack of dawn.

What time does he go to bed?

Both of my ADHD boys are late sleepers. And they both sleep a lot. One used to have a lot of trouble falling asleep but melatonin has been a life-changer. The more hyperactive one falls asleep instantly.

My ADHD boys used to get up very early. Two of them are teenagers and would sleep all day if I let them. The youngest is 11 and still gets up early compared to his brothers, but not as early as he used to. I suspect his sleep patterns will become more like his brothers by the time he is 13.

+1. She's a great sleeper, since birth. Her body demands 11-12 hours. We have to pull her out of bed at 8am for school and camp.

I have one ADHD kid and one not. They are both up at 6:15 every.single.day. But they are also ready for bed by 8:30..

My son is 9 and has combined type ADHD. He has always been an early riser since he was an infant. At least we've moved from 5:00 am wake ups to about 6:00 am. On the weekend I plus the ipad in his room and he can play that until we get up around 7:30. I feel slightly guilty, but I'm usually so sleep deprived that I'm desperate for a little more sleep on the weekends.

My adhd -hyper/impulsive son used to have a ton of trouble falling asleep at night, and wake up too early. Then napped too much. We dropped the nap and let him listen to books on tape at bedtime, so now he falls asleep at a better time. But still wakes up between 6 and 7 every morning. Way, WAY too hyperactive to fall for the "stay in your room and play" approach. We've been trying for years, but when the kid is up, he's UP.

i wake up.

DS is 13. earlier riser, just like me. Not sure if its his ADHD or just the way his brain is wired - he's not hyperactive.

My DD is 8 and is on meds and she JUST started sleeping till 7 with the help of melatonin. Without it she probably wakes up at 5-6. Now that she's older she'll just stay in bed and read until it's time to get up. She was also prescribed trazadone, but I haven't had the guts to give it to her.

My son takes Guanfacine ( Tenex) for hyperactivity, and it helps him sleep about an hour longer than he used to.

My kids (8 and 15) both have ADHD and both sleep late, and always have. The younger one has a hard time settling down at night, and just ends up sleeping later, while the older one just seems to like an extra half-hour to sleep in. We wake them most mornings.

hmmm. Sleep is just so hard to come by in our house too. Would he play on a iPad with headphones when he wakes up?

Eeeek we have this issue too. I drink all the coffee. Ugh.

My ADHD kid is the opposite. We have to drag her out of bed to get ready for school. She'll sleep till 11 on weekends, although is getting better.
