| I'd check out the Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad. Very close to LegoLand, and a former Four Seasons property. I think the beach is still plenty warm in early to mid Sepetmebr (I used to live in SD and LA). I think you'll have a great time! |
| Currently live in CA but grew up on East coast. I get not going further south of you're pregnant (Zika) but could you to North? Cape Cod is awesome in Sept. If it has to be CA I'll jump in to say my 3.5 year old played on the beach / in the surf in Santa Cruz in Jan even though the water wasn't even 60 degrees. That's just how little kids are. If you went to some of the further south locations people are recommending I bet your child would have fun. |

Since you will be five months pregnant OP, I strongly suggest that you + your family remain in the country due to Zika concerns.
No Mexico!! For a family friendly destination, your best bet would definitely be in San Diego. There is so much to do there. However I do warn you that even though September is when Fall begins, San Diego rarely gets the memo!! The weather likely will be hot and there may be some high humidity in the air. The beaches are lovely. Most of them are safe for families, w/the exception of Ocean Beach where crime is pretty rampant lately. To get a room on or close to the beach may set you back a few, but if traveling after Labor Day you may be in the off-season (the only season San Diego truly has!), so you might score a deal unless there is a special event being held. I think the zoo would be fun, but ideally for your little one....Legoland will be the best choice. There is also a beach located in Carlsbad (where Legoland is located) so overall this could be a win win for the whole family. If you choose to go to Disneyland, you may not have as much fun since you will be pregnant + your child will be too small for both of you to be able to ride the popular rides. Have fun planning your trip and I do hope you have fun in "America's Finest City" if your family decides to go that route!!
