last growth spurt for girls

Anonymous
Our ped said the earlier you get your period --the shorter you will be. Tall girls start later, obviously there are people that don't fit this norm.

when does this spurt really start..my dd is 12.5 and is just starting to show growth.

She grew more than my 14 year old DD. Honestly, an inch for 14 year old girl is great especially if she already got her period. I know of a few girls who grew at 15, 16 but they are the rare exception. Unless she is very short, why worry?

I was 5' 2" when I got my periodat 12 and grew another inch between 12 and 18. Between 18 and 21, I grew another 1.5 inches. I do think girls get a small growth spurt in college, but how much varies.

I got my period at 11. I didn't grow from 12-17, grew 0.5 inches in college when I finally had access to nutritious food, and then 0.5 inches during my second pregnancy.

+1. Everyone is different. I got my period in 5th grade and was the tallest kid in my class at 5'4", but I kept growing all through high school. I'm 5'8 1/2".

I grew a 1/2" after I was 12.

Everyone is different. My dd got her period at 9 and was 5'1, she is now 5'9 and seems to be done growing.

What about girls that start their periods at the younger ages of 9&10?.

Got my period at 11--so on the early side. Grew up with excellent health care decent food (it was the 70's--so it's relative) I was 5'1" at 11. I grew an 2 inches a year until @ 15--so 5'7". From 15 to 21 grew 3 more inches.

I cannot believe actual doctors are telling people their daughters will only grow for 18 months after menses. Or that the time of onset has anything at all to do with a girls eventual height. RUBBISH.

It's genetics and environment, people! SMH

My sister and I both grew about an inch in late high school or early college.

My oldest friend got her period at 10 and ended up very short, about 5'. Her mom is several inches taller, but her dad is short for a man.

On the flip side, my sister and I got our periods late, at almost 15 (me) and 15 or 16 (sister) and are the tallest women in our family. I'm 5'5", my sister is about 5'7". We both kept growing until 15, at least.

I was 5'2" when I had my first period at 12 and grew another four inches the year I was 15.

It's a generalization. Of course there a many individual variations.
