OP here again to update--I like to see threads close the loop. It's now almost a year since I last posted.

Today I was offered a Dean position in student services at a state university (non-D.C. Area) with pretty decent pay (above 100k) and excellent benefits. I haven't accepted yet because I think I'm taking a few days to mourn my law career before I go public.

I just wanted to update for all the dreamers out there. There will always be a ton of nay-sayers. This was the only position I applied to and decided to let the chips fall wheee they may.

The hiring process was grueling. I had to teach and present in open campus forums -- fortunately, I'm an excellent public speaker with trial experience. It was rough.

Life is weird and interesting, here's to change!

So ... did you get a PhD? What was the process?
