OP here. The crazy and frustrating thing is that I urgently faxed them the letter this afternoon and later couldn't get confirmation that it satisfies their requirement. I do hope that I won't be running around again tomorrow trying to satisfy some other last minute request.

For all others out there…get a SS card and put it in a safe place. Evidently these types of requests are starting to pop up all over the place.

On a side note, I heard that the airlines are about to get very strict with exact matches of the name on your ticket and the name on your ID, starting July 1.


this is ridiculous... my name on my ID/social/driv.license is almost 40 characters long. they don't give us all this space when filling the form to buy the tickets!!!

Thanks for the information. I applied for a replacement social security card almost 2 weeks ago but unfortunately the receipt for the application I received at the Arlington office does not have my social security number on it. Now I have to go in person again and beg someone to write me a letter regarding proof of my number. Agh! I really need some proof before my closing next week.
