Older Parents and Social Media

I had to block my MIL on Facebook.

Ugh. Your problem is that you all are so narcissistic that you feel social media was only your tool to use, like when you were in middle school and had chat rooms. Now you are resentful and still acting like you are 14. A whole generation of bullies.

I'm glad my mom is on social media because it gets her more connected with distant family and friends, but I cringe almost daily when she forwards or shares misinformation or inflammatory stories. Some of the stuff she shares are truly alarming or even contradictory, and she doesn't even read beyond the headline before she hits the send button. It makes me question her judgment sometimes.

I want my mom to learn how to google. Forget texting or social media. Just learn what the internet is. She's 68. Didn't learn to use ATM until age 47, used to beg my dad for cash every week. She worked FT.

It also drives me crazy that she's incapable of using just one punctuation mark. Rather than text "Are you free? Is this a good time to call? I get "Are you free????? Is this a good time to call?????"

You need to friend her, so she she will stop.
