8 year old - high-back or backless booster?

Anonymous
Seriously. Enough with the car seat, she isn't a toddler anymore. She is probably mortally embarrassed because she has friends who are *gasp* sitting in the front seat while she is still being strapped in like she is using a binky.

Not OP, but her kid is pretty short. Kids don't generally fit appropriately in a seat belt alone until they are 4'9". Some of that depends on physical build. But in general, that's the case. Seat belts are made for adult men. I don't think OP's kid needs a high backed booster for sure, but her child likely still needs some sort of booster that positions the belt correctly.

I believe adjustment straps are available. Still, no need for a carseat.

At 48" and 48 lbs, she is the size of a much younger child. IF the seat belt fits properly ( which I doubt at her size), she can go without it. If not, she needs the booster, whether she is in third grade or not.

+1

-1 She's a small kid. Very unlikely the belt fits correctly w/o. Read entire posts before you spout nonsense, please.

Just because she (maybe) has friends whose parents are complete idiots, doesn't mean OP should do something unsafe with her child. Also, MANY 8 year olds are still in boosters (she isn't in a car seat, Ms Illiterate.) Try shaming the people who are actually putting their kids in danger.

She's probably old enough to sit properly so it really depends on whether she gets a good belt positioning with a low back or not.

Only on the DCUM, my dear.

Don't you know it's all about appearing cool with these parents and not about their kid's safety.

That's for damn sure.

Hell no! Read the safety regulations please regarding booster seats, height and weight. Do not go from what people say on here. My child is 47" and 56 lbs at 9 and therefore must stay in a high backed booster in the SUV due to positioning of seat belts. In the minivan she uses just a booster without the back. I love my kid and feel comfortable knowing she will not die in an accident due to my negligence.

Do you understand the point of a booster? At 47" her child is not tall enough for the seat belt to fit properly. My harnessed 4 year old is taller than her 9 year old. You would really advise her to not put her kid in a booster because of age?

I knew a tiny 10 year old who died in a car accident when I was in elementary school (early 90s). She was buckled in the back seat but it wasn't enough. I don't know exactly how she was injured but it's made me paranoid about car seats and boosters. Rest in peace, Kristine...
