Saturday - need to leave at Noon for Duck, NC (from NW DC)

Honest question. Why not take 15 down, or another backroad highway? I used to go to Danville and just took 29 all the way down. Sure, once you get closer there'll be crap to deal with, but for the bulk you avoid the 95s, 64s, 81s and other interstates.

+1

I honestly don't know why more people don't take alternate routes to avoid I-95. There are several good ones. We all have GPS, just hit "Avoid Highways" and have a more relaxing drive down. Once you get to the OBX, you're pretty much hosed, but then so is everybody because of that one bridge we all have to take.

We leave at 5am and with no stops its 4hours. The key is to go really early or really late. I know OP can't do this but, my friend goes Friday night and stays in a hotel. We are getting a Sunday check in house next year.
