Just at a tryout like that. Impossible to identify smart players. Some of the new evaluators looked remarkably clueless. Several fields nobody was watching. They should really be ashamed of themselves. These kids took the time to be there. |
At a big club it will take years to sort out all the wrong placements. I don't think they care though. Cash that check, baby! |
Saw so many kids doing this at a recent tryout...just wanted to tell them: 'you blew it.' |
| Line up the kids. Line up the checks. |
A lot of players declined offers at our big club this year. I think people are fed up. |
My kids team of 13 is down to 5 with all the players declining. Technical director chose the rosters. He hadn't seen 98% of the kids play. Of course, the top teams are lined with donors, buddies and parents ingrained in the Office. Zero transparency. |
| When is her birthday? Jan-March and she has a better chance of making the team. Oct.-Dec. and you might want to also look into better rec programs. |
Wow, that sucks. What club? |

Above comment makes me wonder. While I'm sure there is some of that going on within the club as a whole, aren't sports really the great equalizer? My kids are fast, agile, athletic, tall and strong. Both of us former athletes, not big donors, not volunteers. But the phone rings with coaches wanting them on the team--- seriously if your kid is good, they find you. |
Technique plus athleticism will be equalizer in coming years. Donor/buddy kids---many can barely keep the ball at their feet, but at 8-11 they are most physical. They do get cut around 13 and the "loyal" parents are stunned their money and influence doesn't work anymore. |
