Kindergarten, for the 2016-2017 school year |
PP here. I hope this doesn't come across as snarky because that's not the way I mean it. There are 25 kids in each of the 2 immersion classes (50 kids total). Half the kids come from homes where English is spoken at home and half come where Spanish is spoken. Rose Hill is a majority minority school with about 50% of the student population identifying as Hispanic, 30% of them receiving ESL services and 35% are LEP. Being 15 on a waitlist of 30 means there are at least 14 in-district kids hoping to get into the program. In the 10 years we were there (and I still have a kid there), every K class has had 1/3-1/2 the home English speakers from out of district (I'm looking at the directories from over the years for the classes). I don't understand why the upcoming school year would be different than all the other school years. Are you sure your friend isn't talking about the SACC waitlist? Now, THAT, I know has a waiting list like what you're talking about. We were number 54 on that list the spring before school started (and were about to get in!). |
