Did you not see that there are health issues? |
I read somewhere that teachers from the group Partners in Learning provides home school support. All the tutors are teachers... may be worth checking them out, PartnersinLearningllc.com. |
More on Gweneth P--this was actually for a tutor as the kids would continue to go school:

This is months old - from May. However, I don't understand why - cost aside - you'd consider private if you have "sick" family members and you travel extensively. Am I reading this post correctly? And how can sick family members travel? Hiring a teacher is like hiring a tutor. Do you expect this brilliant addition to your lifestyle to eventually teach AP chemistry, for example? Methinks you're making excuses to keep your cherubs out of school. |
not the PP - But yes, I noticed and asked why private was even on the table. I attended private school. ATTENDED - as in I WENT each day The OP is off his/her rocker. |
OK, Jane Banks, run along now. Mary has been dead for quite some time now . . . |
OP, I think that MoCo does not allow that. Apparently you have to be the one teaching the kids. I might be wrong about tha, but this is what I think I heard years ago.
They would really have no of finding out if you don't tell them. |
I think it's MD law. You can start your own private school though. |
Not sure about DC or VA but for MD, the bylaw is clear that Home Schooling is for a “parent or guardian who chooses to teach a child at home.” The parent or guardian must be the primary provider of the instruction. Other adults may assist with the special areas of interest, but may not replace the parent. Otherwise, teaching by another adult or group of adults constitutes a school, which must seek approval through the Maryland State Department of Education. |
It's such an incredibly dumb law though. Having finished homeschooling I can honestly say that it's ridiculous and stupid. Most of the homeschool laws are just sour grapes thrown their way from the public school system. I'd hire someone to teach and just be present enough so that you can present the short summary of their learning during your yearly review and get on with your life. |
Or the state has a compelling interest to insure resident children are really being educated and not just left with the 83 year old neighbor lady and a TV set all day long. One reason many US born Latinos in this area need ESOL is that they don't have access as young children to quality child care where English is spoken. I'm all for homeschooling by any adult who holds a current teaching certificate. If you can't pass the standardized test to certify, you shouldn't teach in a private, public, or a home. |
You know that test is ridiculously easy, right? There's no reason a well educated adult should need to take an exam easier than the ACT to prove ghey can teach. |
For older kids there are places like Fusion Academy where you set your own schedule and take as many or as few classes as you want and all classes are 1:1. It doesn't start until 6th grade, though. http://www.fusionacademy.com
I think some Sudbury schools also have homeschooling flexibility, but they are philosophically more like unschooling, so that would have to be right for your family. |

I agree. As a Democrat, I think we should take all the Latino babies away from their parents asap and raise them the way they should be raised. Our way. |
