LMVSC plays in CCL while Gunston and Alexandria play in WAGS/NCSL.

CCL is generally considered a more competitive league for bigger clubs than the other two leagues. That said, there are certain teams at Alexandria and at Gunston that are quite strong and play in Division 1 or 2 of NCSL/WAGS.

Also, it is more likely that your kids will play on the top team in their age group at Gunston or Alexandria as those clubs often have only one or at most two teams in an age group, while the larger LMVSC will usually have two or three teams at each age group.

What I have noticed, however, is that many of the very best players from Alexandra and Gunston move to more competitive teams at the larger area clubs when they reach U13 to U15 and are looking for a higher level of competition and exposure to college coaches.

I would have your kids contact the clubs and arrange to practice/tryout with teams from all three clubs and then go with whichever club and team and coach seems like the best fit for your kids.

Alexandria's top teams are in EDP next year. Arguably as competitive or more so than CCL.

CCL doesn't pro/rel so tends to be less competitive. Alexandria has 5 teams in many age groups. Much of your information is incorrect.

CCL teams won 7 of 8 state cup titles in Virginia .... hardly less competitive http://www.clubchampionsleague.com/2015/11/01/ccl-clubs-claim-7-of-8-state-titles/

"Competitive" /= "has accomplished teams"

"Competitive" means the games provide the appropriate level of challenge.

In the younger years of CCL---there are only 1-2 clubs that consistently blow out all the other teams in the League. 10-0 wins are the norm. Imagine how much better those players could be if they were getting challenged in those formative years.

My kids have played in WAGS, NCSL and CCL. there is the exact same problem with huge blowouts in the early years (UU9- U11) of NCSL and WAGS.

But then NCSL and WAGS (and ODSL and EDP) sort the teams into divisions, which cuts down on the blowouts from U11 onward.

How does CCL (or VPL) even things out at older age groups?

As a D team we got moved up in NCSL at U10. The competition is much greater than our C team currently playing in CCL2.

We have played against all three of those clubs. For sure Alexandria has the best coachin. We still won, but they are doing all the right things. LMVSC kids didn't really seem to understand what they were doing. Gunston was big kids, big boots.

My kid's CCL club evened things in out by having my kid's team play up two age groups in CCL. Has that ever been allowed in WAGS or NCSL?

Our club does no such thing and has never had an entire team play up an age group...which is why we are blowing out 6 and 7 year olds with our 9-year old players, presumably. Stinks for us.

+ 1 With pro/rel the league wouldn't need to do that in the first place. It now waters down the division for the teams not allowing play up.

It's cute. The 6-year old kid I saw in the team we are playing against was adorable, but if I am dragging my ass out of bed to drive my kid 60 min away I'm not relishing watching another 12-0 blowout so another team gets "challenged". We'd be better off having a family in our backyard. Those are always competitive!

What is the difference between CCL and EDP? (For kids older than U10).
