Absolutely do not get winged euonymus, aka burning bush. It is a horrible non-native invasive and no responsible homeowner or landowner would plant it. Its sale has been banned in at least one state and other states are on their way to bans -- that's how bad it is.

Nandina (aka heavenly bamboo) is also invasive in many areas and should not be planted by responsible landowners. It's probably not as horribly invasive as burning bush but it's still not worth planting.

Our federal and state agencies are spending our tax dollars on trying to eradicate this noxious weed plant from parklands because it displaces native plants and threatens a wide variety of native habitats. Burning bush and other exotics are absolutely trashing our forests and depleting habitats for songbirds and other native wildlife.

We know better, and we should do better than to plant an exotic invasive just because it's pretty or low-maintenance.
