You might look at WES (Washington Episcopal School). We've found it very strong academically and on par with international schools (we have experience in a UK independent school), and a really caring environment, as well.

I'd second what you're reading here, that in DC all of the privates have a good population of kids who've lived abroad (and/or international parents)--rather than in some cities where a given international school or the British/French/German school is really the way to go. I think you'll find you can stay on level with the UK curriculum with any of the solid private schools if that's the concern.
