Is all day camp too much for a 9.5 year old for 5 weeks?

Yeah, I use it for daycare all summer. I pick fun camps, not academic camps.

This question doesn't make any sense.

Do you mean you don't have a job?

Why on earth would it be too much? Isn't he in school for nearly that long every day? Why would he be less able to handle it in the summer, at a camp focusing on fun vs. academic topics?

Not too much at all! Camp is not school. There is much more outside time and physical activity. More creative learning. Of course, each camp is different, but generally a camp day is tiring in a very different way than a school day.

Because it would be like 5 more straight weeks of school, and I don't want him to get burnt out... I don't want him to feel like I am dumping him somewhere for the summer...it's not school topics, it's topics that are considered "fun", things he wouldn't normally learn about in school. I also don't want him to stay at home and veg out with Minecraft for hours, so I thought all day camp would be better. ..

But you are dumping him somewhere for the summer... It's what working parents do... I try to switch things up for a few weeks so they feel like something special happened, but I haven't always been able to manage that and they survived.

I understand that. I'm a teacher and home with my kids in the summer. No matter how much I plan they want to be around kids at some point and most friends are in camp all day. My children go to camps for a couple weeks or more, not consecutive, to break up the summer. They love camp and want more but it's expensive when I'm not working. If this camp is new I wouldn't sign him up for 5 weeks.

Is this a real question????

My 11 week old did great in daycare from 8-5, so I think you're good.

But kids with SAHP are less used to this. That would probably be too much for my 8 yo, and waaaaay to much for my 5 yo. My niece and nephew have done it since they were 2 though. But they had no other choice.

No. Way more fun at that age to go to camp with friends (and no homework!) than to hang out with mom

Too much money, perhaps...
anything else, no.

I love how it's "9.5 years old," too. Like 9 years old exactly is definitely too young, but maybe those extra six months make it seem within the realm of possibility.

My kid has done this every summer since he was 3 and can't wait to go back and talks about it even in the winter.

Kids with SAHP get underestimated by their parents. Many kids love all day camp, and many would choose it over being with their tyoe A sahm parents.

It depends on if your child has been to a camp before or not. I would not put mine in a camp that has swimming until he can swim.

I also felt the same way. I am also not comfortable with camp field trips with my 6 and 7 year old. That limits my options significantly.
