When did you allow your child to sit in the front seat- carpooling

Anonymous
AAP recommends 13 and older so that is what we did. My daughter started on her 13th birthday. She was 5'2" at the time so I felt better.

It is the death seat. I don't want my kids in the death seat.

However, these are local roads to our travel practices--not high speed.

I hate when people say this. I was driving 35 on a local road last summer when a car pulled out in front of me and I had no time to stop and broadsided them. My car was totaled, they thought I had internal bleeding and was sore and bruised for weeks. It doesn't have to be a highway for people to get hurt.

My husband has a two-seater. Not good for carpools! But our kid has been riding in the front seat of that car since she was 9. Works for us.

For short distances, I let my dd sit in the front. The passenger side airbag is turned off.
this is not true. Legally as long as you are F2F you can sit in the front, doesn't mean it's recommended but there's no law against it in Va or Md.

Well, maybe it works for you and your husband, is wait to see how your daughter fares after an accident to determine if it works for her.

Of course there are accidents in cities, but there is clearly a correlation between speed and accidents and, especially, between speed and the severity of the accident.
