The Have your waitlists moved? Have you declined a spot? thread

Anonymous
I don't think you'll see much movement before May. We will likely be declining a spot at Basis but we're not rushing ourselves. It's a process. We talked with our daughter about it because she should have a say. We're reaching out to classmates' families to gauge if anyone else was offered a spot and it they'll take it, we're going to the Admitted New Students night to gather more information, we're trying to get a handle on what 5th grade will look like at our current school if we decide to stay (as we're planning on), etc. There is a lot to take in and consider. Having the month between the lottery results and the enrollment deadline is a nice time for families to breathe, think and assess before making a decision. Certainly, some families know immediately if they don't want a school they were matched with and will decline quickly. I just don't think that's the majority of people. And for sure, many will just not respond and let the opportunity expire on May 2.

We have extremely good numbers at both YY and MV, will probably get into both and may not accept either.

PK3

#21 at Meridian PCS post-lottery, offered a spot yesterday. Will decide after open house on Saturday.

Appletree Columbia Heights, moved up 1 spot, now #111

Bancroft, moved down 2 spots, now #167

Mundo Verde, moved up 6 spots, now #480

Matched with Powell. Will decide after Meridian open house.

You'll probably get into Appletree - they seem to go through lots of WL numbers because people want longer-term options. And it's supposed to be great.
I personally would take Powell over Meridian in a heartbeat but that's based on second-hand info from friends last year, so that's just one uninformed internet stranger's opinion.

What are you choosing as an alternative?

Has anyone's numbers moved up or down for IT or CMI? Or are those schools waiting till May?

14:08 We're in a similar (fortunate, I know) position. Matched at CMI with good WL #s at MV and YY for PK3. Did you visit all three schools? Of course the decision is different for every family/child, but can you speak to some of the factors that you've considered??

I know a lot of parents in upper grades and spoke to them about their experiences at the schools. While all 3 schools are excellent, there were enough families leaving MV in the upper years for stronger academic programming or their IB schools for us to consider it over the other two. YY is a really tough choice for us. For our child, I liked the curriculum and the more arts based feel to CMI.

No movement so far in any of our PK4 waitlist numbers. But I keep checking.
