We have sibling preference at DCI and only made it to the waitlist for 7th. #3 is not bad though but I know they are toght on space this year. What are the chances we will get in?

This PP who is #8 for Washington Latin. We are at a DCI feeder. If we get into Latin, I am not sure what to do.... thoughts?

This is 7:26 again. We also got into BASIS, though I am pretty sure we won' go b/c I am worried it is too high pressure for my DC. Still, would love any feedback about WL, DCI and BASIS. TIA

We also got a 5th grade spot at BASIS and will probably turn it down.

Have your child do a shadow day at BASIS. Nothing to lose. They will spend the whole day with a 6th grade class (and be assigned a buddy/escort) and get a good sense of things.

My kids are at BASIS and like it/doing well. If your child has a LD or clinical anxiety, I wouldn't send them. The 'pressure' thing has been exaggerated IME.

We will be sending out third child to BASIS in the fall. For our kids is has been a great experience. They like the cohort and the teachers, while we like the academics, the study skills/habits, and the positive school environment. We are aware of the issues some have with the school, but for us it has worked wonderfully.

Interesting choices.

How important is foreign language to you/your DC? Otherwise it's a choice between more proven/established vs new. Does the commute between the two campuses matter to you?

I would love DC to continue the language but not at the expense of solid academics. I had decided not to try the lottery this year and commit to DCI but lost my nerve after reviewing the DCI test scores this year. I am leaning towards selecting a more established school. Honestly, though, my decision to try the lottery was pretty last minute so I didn't attend any open houses, etc. I think I will call BASIS and ask about a shadow day. Thanks for the suggestion.

Did anyone match at Hardy OOB for 6th?

Just called BASIS to ask about shadow day. We won't be able to do a shadow day but can go for a tour. Love the idea of BASIS just worried it may no be a good fit for DC who is perfectionist.

Well your child would meet lot of fellow perfectionists there . You should feel free to email the HOS - tim.eyerman@basisdc.org He's very approachable and I suspect he'd be happy to chat directly with you about that concern.

I always see kids doing shadow days at BASIS. I would call and ask again if you are matched with BASIS in the lottery or on waitlist.

+1. I think they hoped to do all of them before lottery day as the end of the year comps/AP exam periods are fast approaching...but if they hear enough requests they will probably add a couple days. Keep asking/email HOS. The registrar is great and efficient but she won't be able to say yes without talking to him.
