Finding out sex from PGS testing at SG?

If you pay for PGS testing you get your results. ALL OF THEM including sex.

It doesn't work that way, and SG won't release that information to you. You can't make them. All you can do is take your embryos elsewhere.

This is plain wrong. What you pay to the testing lab includes gender test. You're entitled to this info, but need SG to sign off on it since they ordered the test. What SG won't do because there is a corporate policy against it is gender selection - they will not allow you to request that a certain gender embryo be transfered. They pick for you. But by all means you can find out that you have 2 girls and 3 boys based on the PGD testing.

This is a distinction without a difference. The whole point of gender information is to select one vs. the other (if you only have one, or all of one, that obviously doesn't apply). If this information is withheld from you until after the implantation, it's kind of meaningless.

But it's not the point of pgs testing.

No it isn't, but the discussion isn't about the point of PGS testing. The fact of the matter is that SG does not share information about embryo gender with its patients during the time when it is actually relevant. They only share that information when it isn't possible to do anything about it. This is why I'm looking to leave them for my third.

They are upfront about it, it's a corporate policy. If it's critical for you to be able to select gender, why did you go to SG to begin with?

For the record, the discussion and thread title are about finding out gender from PGS. Finding out, not being able to select what gender to transfer. Big difference.

OK, I see now that the OP was interested in learning the gender after the transfer was already done. I misunderstood.

We went to SG as the best clinic within our reach. We had no idea that at my advanced age it will work the first time, or that we would end up with a ton of extra embryos. I just wanted one.

What was the point of that? That seems like a pretty insensitive thing to say on an infertility message board. I mean, congratulations that at your advanced age you got pregnant on the first IVF and have tons of leftover embryos. But surely you understand a lot of people on this board are not as fortunate, correct? I'm not sure why you think that would be helpful to say.

A lot of people on this board also are interested in other people's experiences. Stories of good experiences with ART for AMA women are valuable too. Perhaps other AMA women thinking of ART will be encouraged reading this.

A friend did donor egg/donor sperm with PGS testing at SG and ended up switching clinics to I believe GIVF due to her age. GIVF (or whichever clinic it was) allows for gender selection of embryos. My friend had a very very hard time getting the information from SG about gender though she eventually got it.

I am trying for number 1 and find positive stories so encouraging. Thanks for sharing.

SG shares gender when you are discharged from their care around 8 weeks. Just ask. Everyone saying otherwise is wrong.
