general practice pediatrician willing to prescribe ADHD meds (DC preferred)

thanks for the replies.

since i wrote, we met again with the school psychologist who again declined to do testing because she is on grade level. she more or less said they won't do it unless she drops below. of course, i think her performance could be a lot better and grade level is where she is landing in spite of the ADHD. also, signs of anxiety have been ticking up as well.

she is scheduled for a well child in June and i suppose i could just wait and get the ped's perspective. i haven't been thrilled with ped's response to behavioral issues i have raised before, so i am not feeling optimistic. that is why i was asking here about general pediatricians because maybe it is time for a new ped. current ped practice seems very focused on babies and toddlers, too.

the georgetown lead sounds good. i wonder if they will schedule me just from cold calling? does anyone know if they will ask for a referral?

and one last question (thanks for your kindness). i see the price quoted on these boards for a private evaluation is 3K. is this really true?

We called KKI and CNMC both about this time last year and got appts for both in August with Developmental pediatrics.. I was truly irritated with CNMC because we were going to have to wait months for testing after that first visit. we ended up keeping the slightly later KKI appointment and my 10 y.o. was tested and diagnosed that day. We just got a referral to psych just last month because dc is having other issues.

That said, my pediatrician would not touch it. Kept thinking DC would outgrow the issues. I started looking for other peds that might prescribe. Try Pediatric Care of Rockville. There was another one in Bethesda but I don't recall the name. Good luck.
