Fysa: most of us have our alone time after the kids fall asleep.

When we travel we always get a hotel with 2 bedrooms or we book a house or villa. We're thinking of a cruise with the kids, ages 6 and 9. I really don't want to stay with them in that small room. Plus is it just 1 bed? Only been on a cruise once when I was 20 and none of this stuff mattered to me, then.

You either have two twins or one queen and two bunks. One is on the bottom and the other is a pull-down from the wall.

Have you at least looked? There are tons of pics online. If this isn't your thing, then don't go on a cruise. I've traveled quite a bit - from villas in Europe to staterooms on cruises. You're never in your room bc there's too much to do. Shower the kids at night, however, or else you'll be waiting forever.

The disney cabins divide the two sleeping areas with a curtain. It's not a big deal.

People who want to take vacations but are on more of a budget than most DCUMers. I grew up with parents who did their best to give us experiences. We went to Disney World once. We came to DC. We went to the beach for a week every summer. And every single time there was one hotel room or one cruise cabin. Two queens typically, my parents in one and the two kids in the other.

How they do it is just realize it is what they can afford and be grateful. On the cruise was really the least big deal of all since you pretty much spend no time there.

Many of y'all seem somewhat...insane, and more than a little unstable.

I didn't see that the OP was all that worked up about it. It was a fairly mundane question.

A reasonable response would be..."it's not that bad, there's a curtain, here's what it looks like, and you don't spend that much time in the room."

I'm not sure WHAT is wrong with many of you all, but there is help available for it I'm sure.

You do realize that you come across as WAY WORSE than all of the other posters, right?

We did Carnival 2 years ago with the exact setup as the picture above. It was fine.

We just did this. One room, back of the boat with extra large balcony. We used it like two rooms when we were all in there. I wasn't comfortable with two rooms this time, but we will do that next time; it was the exact same price as one.

We did the Disney cruise with the curtain--the room is bigger than any other cruise lines (get the deluxe) and we did not have a balcony. The curtain is actually quite good. We brought headphones and would watch a movie on the laptop when they went to bed. We have been on other cruiseships with much smaller rooms and either got a balcony--sat out with a glass of wine when kids went to bed or one time we got two inside rooms connecting--that was awesome even though I swore I would never do an inside cabin. It was almost the same price as a a single balcony room though on that particular cruise.

We do Royal Caribbean cruises only and we do 4 to a standard room. We just suck it up. Not wealthy enough to justify suite or two rooms. We are splurging on an aft balcony room for our cruise next year which is exciting because we usually have interior rooms. But two rooms... No.

We have been on three cruises. We always book two connecting cabins (with the interior door connecting the two rooms).

Depending on the cruise line, some make you book one adult/one child in the room, but some let you book the adults in one room and the kids in the other.
