Agree. I was in a similar position. Dream job, but in a place I absolutely could not live because of SO career. I asked recruiter about flexibility on location up front- they had a satellite office in a city I would live in. The answer was no - so I declined.
Tell them up front about location. Maybe they have alternatives. Maybe not. - I always wonder about these things. The great jobs in my industry are in the middle of nowhere. How do they recruit the best and brightest to move to places where cultural life consists only of a Walmart and Applebee's? |
| Another vote for don't go. It's fine to hone your interview skills locally, but it's just wrong to impose significant travel expenses on others for this purpose. Take the 45 minute interview at home for the job you know you don't want. No foul, no harm. |
