What do you guys think of my political platform?

Anonymous
I think it's called Neanderthal Conservatism...which has been around for decades and is simply referred to as "the typical republican platform."

You had me until you wanted to repeal the 16th Amendment. If you could make a valid argument to do so, I would vote for you. Let me know.

OP here
If you look at my tax plan, it tells you why I want to repeal the 16th Amendment. I believe that any form of income tax is Socialism. I want to go back to the tax system we had before the 16th amendment. No income tax. I'd support a tariff based tax system. Prices of goods would be a bit higher, but there'd be no income tax, so it'd be OK.

Agree with #4 and #18 but you are way off on everything else. Way off. You are young and naive, and have probably lived a sheltered and privileged life, I certainly hope you do not have a closed mind because clearly there is much you have yet to learn in life.

Here's where I stand.

1. Marriage: Between two consenting adults.
2. Abortion: Necessary in some circumstances. But should not be used as a form of routine birth control - proper sex ed and access to contraceptives should be made available - for people living in poverty, they should have free and easy access to long term birth control.
3. Death penalty is inhumane and in some cases we have mistakenly executed wrongly sentenced individuals.
4. Agree with strong punishments for animal abuse. Should also include inhumane farming practices.
5. Decriminalize marijuana use and regulate it the way we do alcohol and tobacco.
6. No guns for people under 18 (may use one with a guardian's supervision), no guns for felons, no guns for people with history of domestic violence, no guns for people with history of alcohol or substance abuse, no guns for people with history of depression or schizophrenia or other mental conditions that could lead to harming one's self or others, no military style guns for civilians, no high capacity magazines.
7. Foreign policy should be collaborative, based on threats and opportunities. US should never engage in unilateral actions toward war but may unilaterally defend if directly attacked.
8. Immigration - improve and expand the visa process to allow legal worker visas where need is well established and documented, and where American workers have had the first right of refusal. From there make deportation quicker and more aggressive.
9. Taxes are what provide civilized society. Simplify the tax code and eliminate most loopholes, and put in place a progressive tax for both individuals and corporations based on recurring income regardless of source (investments or otherwise). Extremely harsh punishments including potential freezing and forfeiture of assets for corporations that offshore revenue in order to avoid taxation.
10. Robust capitalism but with robust government checks and balances to prevent monopolies, worker injury, consumer fraud, to ensure environmental protection, et cetera. Trade deals with foreign countries to include offsets - if a country with lousy record for worker safety and poor environmental protection wants to export goods to the US, they should have to pay extra.
11. Robust safety net, but with checks and balances to prevent fraud and abuse.
12. Healthcare system that is outcomes-based, and has robust checks, balances and controls to contain costs and prevent price gouging.
13. Sufficient bureaucracy to prevent fraud and abuse and protect citizens - that means keeping agencies like the IRS and EPA.
14. Free public education including opportunities for vocational training and basic college options. Extra funding for areas where there is demand or a national shortage, such as STEM. An educated citizenry is vital for the future growth, survival and competetiveness of the nation.
15. Improve national and regional agricultural planning and priorities. It is a disgrace that a majority of produce in the local supermarket is not US grown. Support local farmers, support agricultural technology to improve crop yield, cut off subsidies for industrial crops that are for the foreign market.
16. Climate change is real and is already starting to cost America billions of dollars in infrastructure and relocation costs, and this will get worse in the coming decades. Support renewable technologies. Most major coal fired power plants still in operation in the US were built over 70 years ago and are well past their original planned service life. Coal is no longer competetive as compared to natural gas, and solar and other technologies are well on their way to catching up and overtaking coal as well.
17. America is a diverse and secular nation, and we should recognize that and honor the Founders' vision of separation of church and state. Our laws are based on British Common Law, not the Ten Commandments.
18. Term limits for all politicians - agree with that.

Having a military is socialism, having police is socialism, having border patrol is socialism, having INS agents to round up and deport illegals is socialism... I guess you only like socialism when it suits you?

You and I have different definitions of Socialism.

You were asking where to go to college on another forum. Why don't you go to the college where this professor teaches?

We had already used income taxes to pay for the civil war, long before the 16th amendment. it is not possible to run the government on what you propose. If you really want to see what your platform does, try to create a budget.

You seem quite anti American. Or at least the principals we founded the country on.

I would absolutely vote for Bush. You sound trump level deranged/dangerous.

And in all frankness your views are not in line with the majority of americans so instituting such rule would be against the wishes of the people and therefore kind of inherently undemocratic.

The Civil War never should've been fought. You can run a government on tariffs, but the government would have limited finances. That's exactly how it should be.

A candidate with my views hasn't run since Pat Buchanan. So you don't know if the majority of Americans support it. I'm starting to wonder if democracy is even a good form of government. I'm currently reading Oswald Spanglers masterpiece Decline of the West. Excellent book. After I finish that, I'll be reading Francis Parker Yockeys book Imperium.

There is correlation between no one with your views gaining the nomination for any party and it not being in line with the American people's views.

"Agriculture- End the service economy. Make agriculture a cornerstone of the nation"

Let me put this in dollars for you. If you end the service economy, you destroy $13.6 TRILLION in annual GDP.

The entire value of all the agriculture in the WORLD is only $5.6 trillion. So your plan to make agriculture our cornerstone would require you to get everyone in the world to buy all their food from America, down to the last peasant in the poorest country on earth. Then you would have to discover two more similarly populated planets and do the same for them, via space transport.

I think your platform is completely inconsistent with basic American values, with basic human rights, with basic economic knowledge, and with basic principles that define this country. I also think that this platform is consistent with sociopathic tendencies (not necessarily saying that you are a sociapath). IMO, this platform would destroy this country's economy, social fabric, and soul.

So, to answer your question, yes, I would vote for Bush, and for that matter for almost anyone else. But I don't think you would ever make much progress (perhaps except some low-level local position in some very smal, very conservative town), so the issue is moot.
