What about some sort of training program in plumbing or electrical work? Or construction? Not everyone needs to go to college.
I have a DC who has struggled with some of these same issues and community college is a good fit for us for right now. We have done therapy as well. They provide support for independent living (students live in apartments near Montgomery College and receive help from staff), social skills programming, career development, and tutoring/academics. Outward Bound's Intercept program doesn't take dealers or kids doing hard drugs. It's for kids who are lost/aimless and starting to get into drugs. I know a few kids who went through it and it was really helpful to them.
Some of the wilderness programs are scams, it's true. |

Why do you say that? FWIW, a family member was flailing in college and then joined the Marines. He certainly matured quickly once he was there! Now he's out and much more focused on establishing a career and finishing college. |

How about just let him nurse his wounds for a while and mature. Some people really really really hate programs.
Sounds like he's doing well, and potentially bsing because your expectations don't match reality. |

NP - Hi OP, I have an ASD kid who is struggling in college. I like the New Directions ideas posted above. Just an FYI on the military. The military will not take your kid if they have an ADHD diagnosis and are on antidepressants. In fact, VMI won't take a student like that either. I know, I read the entire list of conditions that knocked DS out of running for VMI. |

| OP again. He's still on low dose Focalin and Welbutrun, so no military for now. I am hopeful that he will be off these in the next year or so. If we could get him out of the home scenario, I think he'd come off them sooner. That's why I'm seeking fresh start ideas for him. |
