This characterization is the one I go with |
NP-- I bet it's because he believes in one God. No "Trinity" complications. That's probably why so many above (and the OP himself) thought "Unitarian" of some sort. I'm Unitarian myself and although the OP would be certainly welcome at our church, I would think that Islam may be a better fit. |
Think of it this way. What do you find so hard about Noah being God? What do you find so hard about David Koresh being God? What do you find so hard about Krishna being God? What do you find so hard about Osiris being God? What do you find so hard about Gaia being God? We're raised to believe that certain things are "true" and others are impossible. But when you really think about it, all of the above are just as plausible (or implausible) as Jesus being God. |
Not if you're Christian, though. Christians know that their God is the only path to salvation. THe only way to avoid eternal suffering in hell. |
No, not all Christians believe this, nor do all Christian denominations teach this. |
And this ^ is exactly why many people of faith get labeled as mindless, unthinking morons. Of course, not all people faith (Christian or otherwise) are devoid of thinking skills. |
Jesus said he was God. He doesn't leave the option of being a wise man. He was either is God or a loonatic. |
Except the OP seems to think that God sent Jesus to Earth as a very special example of how to live, and then Jesus lied to everyone, and claimed he was God. So, we are supposed to believe that . . . ? We're all supposed to lie? We're all supposed to claim to be the only begotten son of God? Or we're supposed to believe that God is a bad judge of character and didn't realize that Jesus was a lying liar who lies? Or . . . I'm just not following. Either Jesus was sent from God, and what he said about himself was true, or he was some guy who might have had some good ideas but was also pretty deluded. I can live with either of those ideas. |
I don't see where it's illogical. The truth is we have absolutely no idea about the origin of existence, order , time , science, math, or matter. It is all just faith . |
| This thread would have been more interesting without the militant atheists and militant Christians chiming in. |
Careful there-- when you say "Christians know that their God is the only path to salvation, what do you include as "their God"-- Jesus and God and Holy Spirit? Just Jesus? The Trinity thing is hard to follow, especially for those of us that take the 1st Commandment very seriously (I count myself in that bunch). |
It doesn't matter. Accepting Christ as your savior applies to all Christians. |
thus, a story about a 1st century Jewish itinerant preacher being the savior of mankind is just as likely the American Indian's "great spirit" being god as it is that gravity keeps us rooted to the earth and 2+2=4. It's all just faith. Whatever you have faith in is OK as long as you have faith in something. |
+1 Sorry, OP, but making up your own religion to suit your personal whims is not the way to go. That is called a false religion; creating an idol. That's exactly what you've done here. |
