We lived in Seattle for several years. With only one week, I would do either Vancouver and surrounding area, or Seattle and surrounding area. Just way too much to see and do in each individual place to try to cover both in one week.
The whole region is stunning in the summer. |
Whistler=overpriced yuppie hell |
| Whale watching off Vancouver Island. Three pods of orca live there and you can see some amazing sights. |
| Victoria is over-rated. Tofino, if you can make it, is nice, but you might be better of sticking with Vancouver, Squamish, day trip to Whistler (or one night). Getting to the island can be a bit of an ordeal. But the ferry ride is beautiful. |

I love Seattle, but with only 7 nights, and it sounds like Vancouver is your first pick destination, I would stick with Vancouver and also go to Vancouver Island. I think you don't have enough time to do day trips to the San Juans/Mt Rainier/etc, which will require a lot of driving. And traffic in the Seattle area can be a nightmare, so going through Seattle to get to Mt Rainier would be a hassle you don't need.
