Does anyone know any stats
on Lab alumni who earn 4 year degrees? I don't 'The see any info on the Last Web page. Thx |
We left Lab a couple years back because there WAS a handful of Jr High girls who had severe psychological issues. I'm not alluding, I'm stating fact. Multiple families met, on several occasions, with the administration and head of school but no solution was ever adopted. Schools can't expell a child because of Mental illness. Fair enough. A few of the students were put on hiatus to receive inpatient and outpatient services for their illness. Cutting and constant talk of death/suicide not only distracted our daughter, but it depressed her. Our daughter definately suffered. Her anxiety sckyrocketed, she started having nightmares and would often play sick because she was so uncomfortable at school. She simply could not process the situation. We instructed our daughter to stay clear but that is easier said than done in a class of 35-40 students. A bad situation for everyone. We chose to cut our losses and change schools again (ugh). |
Are you 18:01? |
| Those that left Lab, where did you land? Not a lot of options it seems. |
| We are at McLean. One family is home schooling for now, another family returned to Fairfax co public schools, one at The Nora school and one at Field. |

Because it wouldn't do a thing to stop the bullying and it would make things worse for your child with the administration. Another longtime parent of a child that has been bullied, physically and verbally. Lab is not the same school it use to be. Elementary was amazing and there were no issues. The new Director and other new administrators have changed the school. Bullying is not handled well. There is no accountability. Victims are told they need to toughen up and not be so sensitive. The bullying happens right in front of the teachers and they do not stop it. Of course this is not true of all the teachers but it is for too many of them. Lab desperately needs strong leadership and trustees that are focused on the kids and not the social life of the school and how many famous people come to their auction. It saddens me because it use to be a school everyone was so proud to be part of and you rarely heard complaints. Now, every week I hear parents sharing stories that would make your head spin. I would still recommend Lab to other parents but not as wholeheartedly. Better to tour with a questioning mind, not one based on past stories of its glory days. |
I also agree with those comments. |
These comments are accurate for what some families have experienced. |
| wow, new poster here. This is so sad to hear since we are looking at LAB for out current 3rd grader. The school is our top choice since the teaching methods fit his profile so well. Everything about LAB seems amazing to us, however bullying in any form is one of our most important issues. We have a very sensitive kid who does not stand up for himself well. Instead he worries about being mean himself. This is such a turnoff. |
| You may want to try the McLean School if your child is the sensitive type. However, McLean School can be the opposite and in some ways extreme dealing with perceptions of bullying. They cater to overly sensitive kids, while being overly punitive to what they view as bullying, which would be laughable at other private schools. They suspend or expel for the most trivial of offenses in middle school. So, take your pick. Your child will not be developed to deal in a real world setting. This is coming from a parent whose child has spent four years in middle school at McLean and we are leaving because of this. It's ridiculous. |
